Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 23, 2026
The short version
- A journal is for the person who wrote it. We built Anyhoo so only you can read or hear yours.
- We never sell your data, never show it to anyone else, and never use it for ads.
- Your entries aren't used to train AI, by us or by the AI provider that powers your friend.
- Your friend only sees an entry when you tap "Talk it through".
- You can delete everything, any time.
1. Who we are
Anyhoo ("we", "us") makes the Anyhoo voice journal, the website at anyhoo.app and the Anyhoo demo. We're based in Canada. Questions about privacy go to hello@anyhoo.app.
2. What we collect, and why
Your journal
Your entries (the words), your voice recordings, the moods you pick and your chats with your Anyhoo friend. We use them only to give you your journal: to save it, show it, play it back and, when you ask, let your friend talk with you about it.
Your friend's memory
If you turn memory on, after you save an entry your friend writes a few short notes about things worth remembering (like names or plans), so it can follow up like a real friend. You can turn memory off at any time.
Account and subscription details
When accounts and Anyhoo Plus launch: your email or sign-in (Apple or Google), and whether you have a subscription. Payments are handled by Apple or Google. We never see your card details.
Basic technical information
Like any website, our servers see technical details such as your IP address and browser type, which we use to keep Anyhoo running and secure. We do not log the text of your entries or chats. We don't use advertising trackers or sell analytics.
3. Where your journal is stored
In the current demo, your entries, recordings, moods and memory notes are stored only on your own device, in your browser. They aren't saved on our servers. Clearing your browser data, or using a different device, will remove them.
When Anyhoo Plus launches, it will include encrypted backup and sync, so your journal is stored securely in the cloud and available on your devices. We'll update this policy, with details, before that happens.
4. Who helps us run Anyhoo
We share the minimum needed with a small number of service providers, who may only use it to provide their service to us:
- Anthropic (Claude) powers your Anyhoo friend. When you tap "Talk it through", we send that entry, your messages in that chat, the mood you picked and (if memory is on) your friend's notes about you. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, this is not used to train their AI models.
- ElevenLabs turns your friend's replies into a spoken voice. Only the friend's reply text is sent, never your entries or recordings.
- Your device's speech recognition. When you talk, your phone or browser (Apple on iPhone and Safari, Google on Chrome and Android) turns your speech into text. This may be processed by Apple or Google under their privacy policies.
- Render hosts our website and servers, and Cloudflare manages our domain name.
- Apple and Google handle app downloads and subscription payments.
Some of these providers process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law. We choose providers with strong security and privacy commitments.
5. What we never do
- We never sell or rent your personal information.
- We never let other users, advertisers or data brokers see your journal.
- We never use your entries or recordings to train AI models.
- We never read your journal ourselves, unless you ask us to help with a problem and give us permission, or the law requires it.
6. How long we keep things
- Written entries: kept until you delete them. We never delete them because of your plan.
- Voice recordings: on Free, recordings older than 3 months are locked (kept, but not playable) and unlock with Anyhoo Plus. See the Terms of Use for exactly what happens when a subscription ends.
- Chats with your friend: saved with the entry they belong to, until you delete it. Our servers keep an open chat in memory only while you're using it.
- Deleted account: everything is removed from our active systems right away and from backups within 30 days.
7. Your choices and rights
You can:
- Delete any entry, recording or chat, or your whole account, at any time.
- Turn your friend's memory on or off.
- Ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask for a copy.
- Withdraw your consent, for example by deleting your account.
- Complain to us, or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (or your provincial privacy commissioner, such as Quebec's Commission d'accès à l'information).
To make a request, email hello@anyhoo.app. We'll reply within 30 days.
8. Keeping it safe
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS) everywhere, limit who can access our systems, and keep secret keys out of our code. No system is perfectly secure, but protecting your journal is the core of what we do. If a breach ever puts your information at real risk, we'll tell you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
9. Age
Anyhoo is for people aged 16 and over. If we learn that someone younger has an account, we'll delete it.
10. Safety
If something you say suggests you might be in danger, Anyhoo will show crisis resources such as 9-8-8. Those messages are not sent to the AI friend. We don't contact anyone on your behalf.
11. Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy as Anyhoo grows. If we make a meaningful change, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
This is an early version of our privacy policy, written for the Anyhoo demo and upcoming app. We'll update it before accounts, cloud backup and Anyhoo Plus launch.
